Private-party inspection checklist

OwnerLot is not a dealer and does not inspect cars. Use this list when you go see a private listing.

1. Match the VIN on the dash, door sticker, and title. If any digit differs, walk away.
2. Ask for the title in the seller's name. A title in someone else's name is a common flip.
3. Cold start. Listen for knocks. Check for warning lights after a 10-minute drive.
4. Look under the car for leaks, fresh undercoating, and rust that the photos hid.
5. Test every window, lock, camera, and seat. Cheap repairs add up on private cars.
6. Do not wire money. Meet in daylight. Pay after you have the title in hand.
